Summary

TDZK stands for Taenaria Derivia Zallus Kitara, a browser-based MMORPG. In TDZK, you play the part of a space pilot, commanding a spaceship across the galaxy. Each player in TDZK starts out at a low level in the most basic of ships; a frigate. It is the player's own choice as to what he or she will become in the game: You can spend your time by yourself, living the simple life of trading, making money and gaining levels, or at the opposite end of the scale invest your hard earned cash in a massive warship, blowing small time traders to smithereens or raiding ports. Much of the game's mechanics revolve around playing within groups called alliances. Truly, the game is the playerbase, and the playerbase is the game. The choices you make will affect you and your pilot throughout your career.

History

TDZK started in the summer of 2001 with a promotional campaign and was launched a few months later creating the first foundations of the game 'TDZK Round 1(I)'. Active gamefounder (Aelanna Cessara) relies on gamer response to incorporate changes to evolve the game TDZK. There have been several major alliances that TDZK shall always remember. However, in all of the rounds, there has never been a large body like a senate controlling the galaxy, never a federation of factions. At the end of round 4(IV), there was a small period of galactic peace when several of the larger alliances bonded together to fight off "The Scourge", a race of Genocidal NPC's Bent on killing everything in their path. Several Large alliances Banded together to fight the threat, Including: K.A.O.S, Imperial Dreams, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Integrated Guardian fleet, and Phoenix fleet. Holy was, contrary to what ex-holy members will tell you, never allowed to join the temporary alliance. Through out the conflict with the scourge, seemingly mindless NPC's displayed human like intuition and complexity. A lot of people believed that the AI of the NPC's was highly complex and capable of raiding planets. However, it was soon discovered that TDZK staff were in actuality operating some scourge at any one given time. While this was expected in part, it took the wind out of many peoples sails. To this day, the scourge AI has never been successfully completed, and NPC's no longer take the front stage like they did in round 4.

Community

The players in the game are grouped into player-created alliances. These alliances make up the community. A list of current alliances can be viewed by logging into the game and clicking on Alliance List. Some alliances have existed for multiple rounds now, while other alliances have come and gone again. TDZK is mainly an IRC-based community, which means that players predominately use IRC for realtime communication. The main TDZK irc server is irc.hypermutt.com (although irc.vjtd3.com is also another server used by many players). Both servers have no server password and the official room is #tdzk on Hypermutt. In addition to IRC, players can discuss important game related stuff on the TDZK Forums. The game also features an in-game messaging system. Some alliances host their own websites and forums as well as teamspeak or ventrilo servers.
The TDZK community consists of players from many different countries, and although the USA is the place where most come from, TDZK has seen large groups of players from Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Croatia, the United Kingdom, Australia, The Netherlands, and Ireland among others. You can almost always find at least one or two people from your country playing it.

Gameplay

The general aim of a space pilot in TDZK is to have fun. However this fun is clouded by the search for fame and respect which is granted by the TDZK community. In addition there are factions in TDZK called alliances which fight over systems to ensure safe trade for their members and property in the form of planets. Many major hunting operations take place as part of an alliance, and one of the key factors in TDZK is the extensive community feeling, working together to fight off other alliances, to own and run your own planets, or simply be part of a team. TDZK can be played very competitively, or just for some spare time fun.

Current Form

In its current form, the game is quite dead, and might, possibly, maybe be replaced by something called "TDZK Fleets" in the indeterminate future. No guarantees, though.

System Requirements

Most versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and other major browsers are compliant with TDZK. An image pack downloaded and stored on the hard drive is frequently used with the game to speed up load times, but is not needed. TDZK, to be played well, does require the use of both keyboard and mouse. The game is playable using almost any modern internet connection, but players using dial-up connections will suffer much longer delays when playing than broadband users will.
For the next version of TDZK, users will have to stick to the following requirements;
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6+
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.0+ (or any other Gecko-based browser, such as Mozilla, SeaMonkey, Camino, Flock, Epiphany, Galeon, or Netscape 7.1+)
  • Opera 8+
  • Konquerer 3.2+ (or any other KHTML 3.2+ browser)
  • Safari 1.2+
